There was no time to waste, I had to place a phone call immediately if this was going to work. Would she be a willing accomplice? Perhaps. I kept wondering what was the state of our relationship now? Maybe it didn’t matter because there was something for the both of us in this potential partnership: A new frontier as it were, all for the taking.

In less than 1 half hour there was a knock at the door, there she stood in amazement of my discovery. We immediately agreed that in order for us to make this our “home” we would have to set about dismantling every vestige of what was in the place. We had our work cut out for us…

Against my better judgement I listened to his directions. No Google, no GPS just regular ole’ directions. I probably was half distracted when I was writing the directions down(was that a right or a left? two streets up is what he said right?) nevertheless I arrived at what I assumed was my destination.

All of this was supposed to be a really simple transaction. I was in need of a couple of alterations done on a few suits I had and my friend had recommended this incredible tailor whose prices could not be beat and who worked out of his home. Simple enough. I go over there, take a few measurements and be on my merry way. As I sit here and ponder my present situation it’s ironic to think that one wrong turn 20 years ago could lead to this… all of this. I’m not complaining it has been good(for the most part) minus the occasional interruption from folks claiming rightful occupancy. But this is my house… I discovered it, it belongs to me.

When a door is open it is our duty to walk through that door. When land is for the taking it is our duty to take it and mold it for our own purposes. I was only behaving as I had been taught. This door to my land, my apartment was open when I arrived for my appointment. It was until later that I realized I was in the wrong place but by then I had already set about making my surroundings suit my purposes.

For some reason my new home had pictures on the wall, clothes in the closet, food in the refrigerator, some odd looking furniture that I would have never picked out. How could this be? This was my new home. Not only was it my new home, but the new home of soon to be formulated family. I needed help to make this work, I needed to enlist the help of a partner.
